I’d like to begin by saying Happy Halloween! I hope all of your Jack O’Lanterns are shining bright, your Tricks are Treating, and remember to thank a Scary Spooky Skeleton for keeping you upright. Tomorrow is the first day of November, a month that has often been dedicated to writing, via organizations like NaNoWriMo, and if you’re participating in that particular challenge, good for you! We are right here cheering you on and can’t wait to see what you come up with!
However, if the idea of squeezing out a whole novel in the course of thirty short days seems daunting, don’t fret! But also, don’t let your creative juices coagulate! And if coagulation happens to be a concern of yours, we have got just the thing for you!
With that, let’s get down to business: and that business is TTAG’s first ever Writing Challenge! Feel free to entertain your customary celebrations, then come back and keep reading for details!
We’ve put together FIVE writing prompts to get you going, and we want to see what YOU come up with! There are thirty days in November, and we want to get as many short stories as we can from you in that time. But not only that–We’re giving away our first-ever batch of prizes to ANYONE who contributes to the contest!
Can I tell you what the prizes are? No, no I can’t. Are they awesome? Yes, yes they are! Will I tell you what they are as soon as I can appropriately do so? Probably!
But more than anything, we want to see what you come up with based on these prompts! We know that the TTAG community is strong, and it is *peak* creativity season right now–the leaves (or snow) are falling, the hot water’s on, and there isn’t a better time to ease into the long months with the imaginative juices flowing!
To submit a short story, simply email your story to me at jdmillerbooks@gmail.com and I will get back to you ASAP!
I can’t wait to see what you come up with, and can’t wait to get started on these prompts myself. If this is the kind of thing you’re into, please don’t hesitate to share the prompts with a friend, or even a stranger you think might be into it! This is our first-ever contest, but if it goes well, our hope is to launch more contests in the near future, with even bigger (even cash!) prizes.
Again, happy Halloween! Happy November, and happy writing!
